How old do you have to be to scuba dive?

With PADI, children can try scuba in the Bubblemaker programme from age 8 (in a pool, with close supervision) and earn the Junior Open Water Diver certification from age 10. Juniors aged 10–11 dive to 12 metres with a certified parent or guardian, or PADI Pro; 12–14-year-olds to 18 metres with a certified adult. At 15, junior cards convert to adult certification.

What can children do before they're 10?

Bubblemaker starts at age 8: kids use real scuba equipment in a pool under close supervision by a trained PADI Professional. Seal Team is the next step.

  • Ages 10–11: maximum 12 m (40 ft), buddy must be a certified parent or guardian, or PADI Pro.
