Erg Somaya is a coral pinnacle (erg) on the east side of Small Giftun, in the Giftun Islands, the closest island group to Hurghada. Sources document depths to 29 m. Regularly reported life includes hard coral, barracuda and snapper. Its position is confirmed by independent sources.

Regularly seen: Hard coral, barracuda, snapper, jackfish, tuna and glassfish in the chimney.
Occasional or seasonal — never guaranteed: Sharks and napoleon wrasse.

Recommended minimum: CMAS ** / AOW (per wannadive)
Safety: Current; not for beginners. Strong currents; buoyancy control needed.
How is it dived?
Getting there: < 30 min from Hurghada.
Moorings or drift. Chimney at NE corner: enter 30 m, exit 22 m.
